About Loi

I am proud to be one of Greater Dandenong’s longest serving Councillors, having first been elected in 2008. Over the years, I’ve dedicated myself to supporting and advocating for local residents - especially those from less privileged or newly arrived communities - so they feel acknowledged, respected, and confident that their voices are heard and valued.

My experience arriving in Australia as a refugee has shaped who I am and the work I do.  I was born in Vietnam and in 1981 I fled on a small boat with 16 others.  After 67 days at sea, we reached Hong Kong where I stayed in a refugee camp until being accepted for resettlement in Australia through the Humanitarian Program in 1983. I am deeply grateful to be an Australian citizen and I appreciate every opportunity this country has given me.

I am married with seven adult children - all of whom remain connected to their cultural heritage - something that means a great deal to me.

Outside my Council responsibilities, I care about our environment and the health of our neighbourhoods. For the past 29 years, I’ve taken part in Clean Up Australia Day and supported many environmental and community initiatives across Greater Dandenong.

It is truly a privilege to serve this community - a community that welcomed me, supported me and gave me the chance to rebuild a life filled with purpose. I look forward to continuing our work together to keep Greater Dandenong safe and inclusive for everyone.
