Community Calendar Photography Competition Workshops

Every year Council produces a community calendar which holds important information about waste and recycling programs and events in our community. Each month features photos that were taken by community members and showcase our beautiful city.

A competition to have your images featured in the 2027 calendar is now open and we are running two workshops to help members of the Greater Dandenong community discover what it takes to create a winning photo.

Led by visual artist, photographer and educator Abhijit Pal, the workshops will develop participants’ skills in observation, composition, light, perspective and visual storytelling. Rather than focus on technical camera settings the workshops will help you develop an eye for capturing and celebrating the character, diversity and everyday beauty of our city. Abhijit has had three photos selected in previous calendars and will inspire you to discover new ways of seeing familiar places. 

Workshops will include an outside walk around to practice your new photo skills and an opportunity to review photos and get feedback from the facilitator.

You can then enter your photos into the 2027 Community Calendar Photography Competition before it closes on Monday 31 August.

Bring your own smartphone or digital camera.

Two sessions available:

• Workshop 1 - Sunday 16 August, 1pm-3.30pm at Keysborough Community Hub
• Workshop 2 - Thursday 20 August, 2.30pm-5pm at Springvale Community Hub

Please note: Places are limited. We ask that you only enrol in one workshop to allow other people to attend.
