The little fish-shaped soy sauce bottles might seem convenient, but they come at a cost to the environment. They can’t be recycled in kerbside bins, so they often end up in landfill or waterways, contributing to pollution and harming marine life.
Starting 1 September 2025, the South Australian government has banned small single-use plastic containers under 30ml. That means the fish-shaped bottles are being phased out in favour of more sustainable options.
Here in Victoria, many shops already offer soy sauce in reusable containers. Saying “no” to single-use packaging helps reduce waste and encourages businesses to make eco-friendly choices.
It’s a small change that makes a big difference. Choose sustainability - skip the soy sauce fish!
