Greater Dandenong City Council heard from more than 1200 children, young people, families, community leaders and service providers to develop its newest strategy.
Now, Council is inviting the community to have their say on the draft Children, Youth and Family Strategy 2027-31 before 5pm on Saturday 31 October.
The strategy will guide council’s important work supporting children, young people and families over the next five years.
During earlier engagement stages, the community identified several key priorities including:
- Improving mental health and wellbeing
- Creating safe and inclusive spaces
- Strengthening community connections
- Supporting learning and growth opportunities
- Increasing participation in decision-making
- Improving access to services
From this feedback, the draft strategy places focus on five priority areas:
- Leading and Partnering
- Healthy and Thriving
- Engaged and Valued
- Belonging, Safety and Connection
- Learning and Growing
Greater Dandenong Mayor, Councillor Sophie Tan, said the strategy will help Council and its partners respond to the needs and aspirations of children, young people and families across the City.
“Children, young people and families are at the heart of a strong and connected community. This strategy is about understanding what matters most and making sure their voices continue to shape the services, spaces and opportunities we provide.”
Community members are invited to visit Have Your Say to review the draft strategy and complete an online survey before 5pm on 31 October 2026.
