Greater Dandenong City Council proudly celebrated International Women’s Day with a special event as part of the Women in Business (WIB) Network, bringing together over 70 members of the local business community for a session of inspiration and connection.
Key highlights:
- Welcome from Mayor Cr Sophie Tan
- Keynote presentation Sarah Davidson, sharing her personal and professional journey
- Over 70 local businesswomen and community members
- Attracted attendees beyond the usual network, including first timers
- Valuable networking opportunities with insightful discussions on confidence and redefining success.
The event opened with an address from Mayor Cr Sophie Tan. This year marked the 115th anniversary of International Women’s Day. Mayor Cr Tan celebrated the achievements of women in business and encouraged attendees to continue supporting one another in paving the way for the next generation.
Headlining the event was keynote speaker Sarah Davidson; entrepreneur, podcast host and co-founder of global organic tea brand Matcha Maiden. Sarah captivated the audience as she shared her journey from working as a lawyer at a top international firm to take a leap of faith into entrepreneurship. What began as a creative side project quickly evolved into a thriving global business, alongside the launch of Melbourne’s popular plant-based café with celebrity clientele, Matcha Mylkbar.
Throughout her presentation, Sarah encouraged attendees to back themselves and challenge self-imposed limitations. She spoke to the confidence gap often experienced by women in the workplace, noting the tendency to wait until all criteria are met before taking opportunities. Participants were encouraged to adopt a mindset of “why not me”, to trust in their abilities and to be willing to step forward even without feeling completely ready.
In addition to her entrepreneurial achievements, Sarah highlighted her ongoing work as the creator of the “Seize the Yay podcast”, where she holds meaningful conversations with high profile guests around fulfilment, wellbeing and authenticity.
The next WIB meeting on Thursday 14 May will explore the topic of “Online Personal Branding” on LinkedIn and beyond. Tickets are limited. Book your place now.
